Chase customers already may have received a letter stating that its Ferndale branch is shuttering. The bank at 8530 Ferndale Road ceases its operations Friday, Nov. 9, at noon.

The closure may not be a major inconvenience to neighbors because of its consolidation with another branch at 9634 Audelia Road, which is 1.3 miles away. Banks at Casa Linda, Casa View and Skillman at Larmanda also are within 3 miles of its Ferndale location.

“Sometimes we consolidate a branch when another is nearby or traffic is low,” Greg Hassell, Chase’s regional spokesman, told the Advocate via email. Money saved by consolidating branches is used to develop mobile and online banking products, he added.

Chase operates 200 branches in DFW and 540 in Texas. Ironically, in January, the company announced plans to open 400 new locations nationwide over the next five years. These banks will serve low-income and middle-class communities, as well as create 3,000 jobs, Fortune reported.
