Does your furry feline enjoy the finer things in life? Does it appreciate Victorian stylings and cat-friendly entertainment?
If so, the East Lake Cat Care Center is the place for your pet, and you can visit it at an open house next week.
The center, which opened in 2013, is just for cats. There are 11 themed bedrooms where the cats can lounge and purr to their hearts’ content, along with 24 Victorian painted lady suites complete with televisions playing cat-friendly programming such as fish, birds and hamsters that provide environmental stimulation for mousers.
And, of course, there is a separate area for the litter box.
Dreamed up by Dr. Karen Fling, the Cat Care Center is not just luxurious digs for cats. It also provides medical, surgical, luxury lodging, nutrition, salon and adoption services for cats. There is a capacity for around 200 animals between the boarding space and the hospital.
The building, located at 10040 Shoreview near Audelia and Northwest Highway, previously was Lake Highlands Animal Clinic. Local artists Jan Hodges and Kay Wynne from Studio Arts Dallas next door helped paint the cat condos and other Victorian flourishes in the building.
There will be an open house this Saturday, Aug. 11 from 6-9 p.m. and will include tours, a chance to talk with veterinarians, cat behaviorists, nutrition experts and even adopt your own cat. Refreshments from Lakewood Smokehouse and Nothing Bundt Cakes will be joined by wine and beverages as well.
The open house launches a new video and audio series called “The East Lake Cat Chat Podcast,” where “catsultant” Lana Rich works with cat owners to resolve and prevent behavior problems. The cat care center is part of the network of animal care facilities, the East Lake Pet Orphanage and the East Lake Veterinary Hospital.
