Matthew Morris will speak at the Dallas AVID Summer Institute

Matthew Morris is a bit of a celebrity in the halls of Lake Highlands High for his work as teacher and coordinator of the school’s AVID program. AVID – Advancement Via Individual Determination – seeks to identify bright students unlikely to enroll in college-level Advance Placement courses and empower them with the skills and confidence to take them on. Most have no family members with college experience, and many come from immigrant and/or poverty backgrounds.

This summer, Morris’ star-power will reach beyond the halls of LHHS.

Morris has been selected as “Teacher Speaker” for the Dallas AVID Summer Institute in June. He’ll be addressing thousands of educators and sharing how AVID transforms lives.

Winners of Lake Highlands Women’s League and Exchange Club scholarships often credit Morris with their success, and AVID students are routinely featured in Advocate’s yearly May article on students who overcome odds to achieve great things. This year’s article is no exception.

Congratulations Mr. Morris and LHHS!
