Highlander students will enjoy feeding and caring for their ducklings once they hatch
Students at Highlander School are on duck watch this morning, awaiting the hatching of eggs they are growing. The ducklings have begun “pipping,” the beginning of the hatching process, and are expected to burst forth at any moment. You can watch the scene live via the students’ “duck cam” here.
The project is part of the second grade’s unit on animals born from eggs, and they’ve chosen to hatch one White Crested egg, one Chocolate Runner, one Cayuga and a Buff. No word yet on what students will name the little critters.
The second-graders will nurture the ducks in their classroom and watch them grow, get feathers, swim and learn to eat crickets. Eventually, the kids will recruit a suitable home – likely the farm or ranch of a family friend.
