LHJH Jazz

Lake Highlands High School’s popular Jazz Under the Stars is back this year, and leading the effort is a familiar face – Luke Wingfield. Wingfield graduated from LHHS in 2010 and earned a Master’s in Jazz Studies from UNT, where he was part of the Grammy-nominated One O’Clock Lab Band. As an undergrad, he was a member of TCU’s Horned Frog Marching Band and their Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, Brass Quintet and Jazz Band. He now serves as assistant band director at LHJH and conducts the LHHS Jazz Orchestra, LHHS Jazz Ensemble and newly-formed LHJH Jazz Band.

In addition to teaching, Wingfield performs regularly at jazz clubs and wedding venues. Chances are good his students will talk him into some solo improv at the concert.

Jazz Under the Stars will be held Thursday, May 3rd from 7-9 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium. Doors open at 6 and dinner options will include two food trucks, dessert offerings and bottled water. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs to spread out on the field. Admission is free.
