Forest Meadow Junior High PTA volunteers are busy preparing to host their 34th annual Market in the Meadow in October, including 44 new vendors from all over Texas. More than 100 additional merchants will be returning, bringing a collection of clothing, gifts and home accessories not found in any shopping mall.

Vendor Chair Kristi Kendall gave me the inside scoop on what’s new. Butterfly Kate will create cards, art and home décor on paper, wood and other surfaces. Charmed by Wootz will offer handmade jewelry and watches from cabochons of brass and glass with images inside. The Fort Worth Aggie Moms Club will bring all their favorite A&M gear (whoop!) for cheering and tailgating. Givejoy personalizes water bottles, bags, camp trunks and other fun gifts.

Author Rosemary Janney, a Lake Highlands resident, will bring her children’s book series The Wild Adventures of Audelia Yates. Studio K Designs, owned by MHE, FMJH and LHHS mom Karen Kopf Foust, will offer personalized, hand-painted wood signs and other home décor. Vickery Trading Company, the brainchild of LH resident Stephanie Giddens, is a workshop at Vickery Meadow’s Northwest Community Center where refugee women work together to sew and sell adorable children’s clothing.

Vio DeRidder of the Forney DeRidder family will bring vintage jewelry, handbags, international finds and apparel. Stay My Baby creates personalized nap mats for preschool and day care. Mongrel Koi Designs showcases art pieces of sculpture, jewelry and mixed media.

When you get hungry, you’ll find snack and lunch items in the Charger Café and homemade sweet treats at the bake sale. Entertainment will be provided throughout the day by FMJH, LHJH and LHHS bands, choirs, drill teams and dance teams.

Market in the Meadow will be held Oct. 21 (9 a.m to 5 p.m) and 22 (11 a.m. to 5 p.m) at FMJH, 9373 Whitehurst at Abrams Road. Admission and parking are free, but pack your patience. Everyone loves MIM and the entire community turns out.
