“I remember the crowd and the noise,” says Miller. “Everyone was so invested in the game, and you couldn’t help but cheer. That’s why I love pro sports – they’re a lot of fun, and the whole crowd gets involved.”

Miller will be attending plenty more Dallas Stars games in the coming months. She’s been named one of the team’s newest Ice Girls.

Ice Girls dance at games, and they skate onto the rink to tidy the ice and keep the crowd revved up during breaks. Miller says working on her skating will be Job One.

“I actually have not skated before besides casually skating around the Galleria, but with the Dallas Stars Ice Girls, you can either try out as a dancer, or a skater, or both. They started teaching us how to skate during training camp, and I’ve really enjoyed it.”

Miller recently graduated from Oklahoma University with a degree in nursing, but she’s spent years preparing to dance in the Stars’ spotlight. She learned from the legendary Kitty Carter, famously harsh and honest to Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders hopefuls and owner of Kitty Carter’s Dance Factory in Lake Highlands, and she was part of a company in Oklahoma called 405 Dance. The audition process also involved an interview and a test to ensure knowledge of the game of hockey. Throughout the season, more hockey tests will follow.

Ice Girls make occasional appearances at local events and on TV, and you can follow them on Twitter and Facebook. The Stars’ kick off the season with a home game against the St. Louis Blues Sept. 19. A full schedule is here.
