Interested in helping needy kids start their school year off right?
Councilmember Adam McGough, the AllinD10 Collective Impact Team and Richardson ISD are teaming up for a Back-to-School Supply Drive, and they are inviting all of Lake Highlands to jump in and help. This first year, collected supplies will go to deserving kids from Forest Lane Academy (FLA). Next year, the project will expand to include more Title 1 Lake Highlands-area elementary campuses (schools with high concentrations of students from low-income families) making this an annual event for years to come.
The drive is part of a larger Back-to-School Fair planned for August 17th from 3-7 p.m. at FLA seeking to (1) outfit all 700 students with a backpack full of school supplies, (2) increase the number of students pre-enrolled before the first day of school and (3) vaccinate students onsite to ensure compliance with enrollment requirements and make sure as few kids as possible miss those critical first few days of class.
If you’d like to donate, say, 10 boxes of Crayons or 20 children’s scissor’s, you may sign up here to meet a specific need. Your Scout Troop, soccer team, HOA, Sunday school class, service organization or other group can collect school supplies and drop donations off in the Forest Lane Academy gym between 9-11 a.m. Monday, August 7th and/or Tuesday, August 8th. Photos of your group and the supplies you’ve collected may be emailed to Shelby Eidson at eidson.shelby@gmail.com for sharing.
