“I think there should be some kind of historical marker for the neighborhood Hamilton Park,” historian Ted Campbell told the Advocate in 2015. Done. Hamilton Park, “an intentionally planned, middle-class, African American community” in the Lake Highlands/North Dallas area, according to the announcement, receives an official Texas Historical Marker designation this Saturday at 2 p.m. The Hamilton Park Civic League, Dallas City Counselor Adam McGough, and the Richardson Independent School District welcomes the public to share in the special event. Meet at the Hamilton Park Pacesetter Magnet at 8301 Town Street. (Recently the Hamilton Park Pavilion was restored in its original angular modern style.)
The Dallas Arboretum’s “Cool Thursday Concert Series” features Who’s Bad, a Michael Jackson tribute. The show is at 7:30, but gates open at 6 p.m. There will be food trucks on site, so grab a blanket and have a musical picnic. Tickets are $10-$28 for a single show, or you can buy a pass for the whole season.
The St. Thomas Aquinas Church Young Adult group is launching a weekly kick-ball event every Thursday from May 11-June 8. Pick-up games will take place at 7 p.m. in the athletic field behind the church, 6303 Kenwood Ave — it’s just outside our neighborhood and all are welcome. They’ll also offer other games like corn hole, trap ball and ultimate football.
Midnight Passion, a local theater troop that specializes in improv, will craft a hilarious melodrama based on audience suggestions this weekend. The show can be seen Friday or Saturday at 11 p.m. at Pocket Sandwich Theater, 5400 Mockingbird. Tickets are $5 at the door.
