Check out Lake Highlands High School senior Blen Hussain, a resident of District 10, as she makes a case before the Dallas City Council for public library funding.
We know Blen’s story because we featured her in a recent cover story about graduating seniors who have overcome unbelievable odds.
She briefly shares with city officials her experience of coming to the United States and Lake Highlands as a refugee and relying on public libraries for computers and internet.
“… for education, reading is important, and for reading, a public library is important,” she says. She goes on to point out that “there are only seven computers at the Forest Green [Branch] Library [which serves LHHS students living in the northeast Dallas area], and so many students like me depend on the library for our education …”
