Flag Pole Hill

Changes are coming to Flag Pole Hill, as you all know (if you don’t, catch up here), but the one you might notice later next week wasn’t planned.

During a recent routine inspection, Dallas’ Park and Recreation Department staffers detected stress cracks near the base of the towering flag pole for which the White Rock Lake area park is named.

After bringing in an outside inspector, the experts agreed the flag pole needs to be replaced as soon as possible.

City and Park Department officials aim to ensure public safety while also making sure a flag is flying high Monday, Memorial Day, according to District 10 councilman Adam McGough. But by the middle of next week Flag Pole Hill will be flagless, as city staffers schedule estimates and establish a timeline for its replacement.
