Dallas Public Works presents The Tempest, a free production starring community members and Lake Highlands students.

The aforementioned’s affiliated Public Works Dallas is a collaboration among Dallas Theater Center, Southern Methodist University’s Meadows School of the Arts and Ignite/Arts Dallas and AT&T Performing Arts Center.  Five organizations/nonprofits are involved at this point, including Jubilee Park and Community Center, Vickery Meadow Learning Center (VMLC), Literacy Instruction for Texas (LIFT), Bachman Lake Together and City of Dallas Park and Recreation, and all will participate in an upcoming free production of Shakespeare’s The Tempest at the Charles Wyly Theatre.

The choir students from neighborhood school Northlake Elementary have a special cameo in the musical, family-friendly version of The Tempest, directed by Kevin Moriarty.

Here’s what to expect: “Marooned and left to die on a remote island, Prospero can command spirits, create apparitions, and manipulate the elements. By using his magic, he assembles his enemies to take revenge on them, and in the process awakens in Miranda, his teenage daughter, her first experience of love,” according to the show’s promo.

“Directed by Artistic Director Kevin Moriarty, this musical adaptation of The Tempest will showcase 200 Dallasites from all over the city, who will share the stage with professional actors.”

Tickets to the show, March 3-5, are free, but must be reserved via the box office at 214.880.0202.
