“The Board has had the unique opportunity to observe Dr. Stone leading our district with distinction as Interim Superintendent over the past months,” praised Board President Kim Caston. “During that time we have been able to witness first-hand that she possesses all of the desired superintendent profile characteristics, as identified by the Board and supported by the staff and community. We believe we have selected exactly the right person to lead RISD and build on our momentum as we focus on our important vision of growth for all.”

“It was a unanimous and enthusiastic decision by our board,” agreed Trustee Jean Bono.

Stone joined RISD in 2015 as Deputy Superintendent over Curriculum and Instruction and became Acting Superintendent in April when former superintendent Dr. Kay Waggoner took a leave of absence. Dr. Waggoner retired in June.

Stone earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Texas at Arlington, a master’s in Education from Texas A&M Commerce and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. She began her 26-year career in education as a middle school English teacher.

Congratulations, Dr. Stone!
