Forerunner Mentoring

Forerunner Mentoring

If you’ve been hesitant to attend an event in support of Forerunner Mentoring, the group which matches men with fatherless Lake Highlands students for guidance and support, take heart. Founder and former LHJH football coach Zach Garza says the free Forerunner Tailgate this Friday before the Wildcat football game will be “an ole’ fashioned cookout. There will be no speech or fundraising aspect to it, just a community gathering and good time.”

Forerunner’s mission is compelling, and the group’s success rate is impressive. Since Forerunner was first featured in Advocate Magazine in 2012, the group has celebrated its first round of LHHS graduates and welcomed more students into the program. They also created Forerunner Family Ministries, led by Garza’s wife, Sara, to support the single moms doing double-duty at home.

The Tailgate, says Garza, is a fun chance to bring the community together.

“We’ll have bounce houses and face-painting with hot dogs, drinks and chips for all of our guests.”

The tailgate will be held Friday, Nov. 4 from 5-7 p.m. in the pavilion across from LHHS at the LH North Recreation Center.
