An alarming letter went home to parents of Hamilton Park Elementary yesterday, explaining that a first-grade student came to school with a loaded gun in her backpack.
The letter from principal Michael Thomas explained that staffers discovered the gun as the student was pulling homework from her backpack.
Staff members were immediately able to confiscate the gun from the girl and alerted district resource officers and police, reports Fox4 news.
“There is no indication of a threat to any student or staff member, and after consulting with Dallas PD and conducting an investigation, we are confident the student did not intend to use the weapon or harm anyone,” the principal wrote. “The young age of the child contributed to a lack of understanding regarding the serious nature of the situation.”
So far no charges have been filed, and no injuries occurred.
