In a ceremony Thursday, with her Lake Highlands High School graduate daughters and her husband on hand to cheer her on, Yarger was presented with the high honors.

“My amazing Mom is the hardest worker,” wrote daughter Abby Evans Misegades on social media, “and she does it all with such heart and humility.”

About 25% of Wallace’s student population hails from Burma, and most of those spend time in refugee camps before making their way to LH. Yarger and three of her teachers spent last Spring Break traveling to Burma.

“We wanted to learn more about where the kids came from,” Yarger told me shortly after her return,” and spread an awareness with all of our colleagues that you have to understand a child’s background before you can really understand how to reach them. You have to meet them where they are to help them grow, and we’ve seen so much growth in these kids.”

Congratulations, Mrs. Yarger. Well deserved, faithful servant.
