“It was a great honor to coach this outstanding young man at LHHS,” Dr. Bob Iden, former principal and coach for the Wildcats, wrote on Facebook over the weekend, “and to see him go on to become a four-time All-American at the University of Arkansas, to become an assistant coach at UA, then become head track coach at the University of Tulsa, and to be the head man at KU for 16 years. Even more gratifying is to see what a great husband, father, and positive influence he is as a mentor to many. Congratulations, Stanley, and keep doing great things at KU – Rock Chalk Jayhawk!”

Redwine expressed his gratitude in an article on the college’s website.

“I’m excited about this honor and very thankful for it,” said Redwine. “But this award is just an indication of how hard everyone, from the assistant coaches and athletes to the support staff, has worked. This is as much an honor for the entire team as it is for myself.”

Over the weekend, the Jayhawks took second place at the outdoor conference championship, and they’re currently ranked 25th in the NCAA.

During his career at KU, Redwine has seen 16 of his Jayhawks earn individual NCAA titles, and he has coached 164 All-Americans and 5 Olympians. Two of his teams so far have been inducted into the Kansas Athletics Hall of Fame, and he was chosen to lead Team USA’s 2007 Pan Am Games in Rio, among many other honors.

Congratulations, Stanley Redwine!
