Lake Highlands High School senior Blake Cronin has been named to an elite list of local scholar athletes by the National Football Foundation’s Gridiron Club of Dallas. Blake is one of 66 students from schools around North Texas who will be honored at the club’s 8th annual awards banquet April 10th in Addison. Seven collegiate athletes will also be recognized.
“We are incredibly proud of this year’s scholar-athletes,” said Gerald Brence, president of the NFF Gridiron Club of Dallas Chapter and the athletics director for the Plano ISD. “In the eighth year of our chapter, we are honoring a record number of high school scholar-athletes, and these athletes continue to impress, not only on the field competitively but also as scholars and young community leaders. It’s always an honor to meet these young men, showcasing the great stories in North Texas that will inspire future student-athletes to excel in the classroom and become more involved in their communities.”
The event will feature new UNT head coach Seth Littrell as the keynote speaker and sportscaster Scott Murray as emcee. Several scholarships will be awarded during the banquet, with one high school player being named the club’s top scholar-athlete.
Blake is the only Wildcat on the list, but he follows recent inductees Lane Toungate (2015), Thomas Thornton, (2014), Mitch Henton (2013), Will Moomaw (2012), Scott Hanks (2011) and Ricky Zorn (2010).
Congratulations, Blake!
