Tamesia Chatman

Some of us find math challenging, if not outright unbearable (I admit it), but at least the students at MPE and Aiken have Tamesia Chatman.

A Lake Highlands High School graduate and math specialist at Merriman Park Elementary and Aiken Elementary in Lake Highlands was just named the 2016 Texas Alliance of Black School Educators (TABSE) Teacher of the Year.

Tamesia Chatman has been teaching nine years. The honor was awarded based on recognition from peers and supervisors for “the exemplary contributions she has made to her profession,” notes the Richardson ISD announcement.

TABSE’s mission is to improve the educational achievement of African-American students. Its members believe in identifying and promoting activities “designed to sensitize the public-at-large and educators to the specific needs of African-American students,” according to its spokesperson.
