Ernest William Scruggs Jr., the nephew of murder victim Georgia Scruggs has been arrested and charged with the crime. She was killed last week inside her Richland College area apartment.
Police say the victim shared the apartment with her nephew.
“Detectives discovered that Scruggs was a suspect in an arson case where he attempted to set fire to the victim’s apartment,” police continue in a statement to the press. “Ernest Scruggs was apprehended in Garland on an Arson warrant. He was transported to The Dallas Police Homicide Unit where he gave a voluntary statement detailing his involvement in the murder of the victim Georgia Scruggs. Arrestee Ernest Scruggs is in the Dallas County Jail charged with Capital Murder and Arson on $1,000,000 bond.”
Georgia Scruggs was a 58-year-old hairdresser who told friends she had been feuding with a family member.
Her body was found just after midnight last Wednesday at the Walnut Bend Apartments, located in the northernmost section of the Lake Highlands area, near Richland College.
Scruggs’ coworkers called police when she did not show up to work at A Cut Above Clips in Richardson.
The Morning News reports that she told friends a family member had been acting “crazy,” had tried to burn down her kitchen, and that he was threatening her life.
