Congratulations are in order for the Lake Highlands Junior Women’s League. Beginning a new tradition isn’t easy in a community as storied and as established as LH, but the smiling crowds at their Light Up the Highlands festival Sunday afternoon indicate they did it with style.
You can see my photos here.
There were families with schoolchildren excited to pet Santa’s reindeer, families with toddlers wracked with stage fright once they got on Santa’s lap, families with grandparents in tow after Thanksgiving festivities – the general theme was ‘family’ at this ‘first annual’ event.
The wet ground from days of rain kept most festivities indoors, but no one near me was complaining. Folks waited patiently in long lines for hamburgers and fries compliments of In-and-Out Burgers, sang along to carols courtesy of LHHS’ Espree show choir, and caught up with old friends – and made new ones.
Until mid-January, the 30 foot outdoor Christmas tree – located on the grounds of the Lake Highlands North Recreation Center – will be lit from 5:30 p.m. until 2 a.m. each night. Happy holidays to you and yours.
