This Thanksgiving, the owner of JJ’s Cafe asked neighbors to nominate area residents for a turkey day giveaway. It wasn’t a contest, per se, rather he just wanted to do something special for a deserving White Rock area family.
Monday night, Lake Highlands’ Caren Bright — philanthropist and founder of Pamper Lake Highlands, an organization we wrote about a few months ago — received a call “from a number she didn’t know.” It was owner Jose Ramirez to tell her she won a Thanksgiving meal for her family. She cried and thanked him, confiding that her finances were indeed tight. Just this week, Bright and her daughter have been packing and delivering winter care packages to hand out in the name of “spreading holiday cheer.”
The holiday meal was a shocker she says, a pleasant one.
“Dinner from JJ’s is such an incredible gift,” she tells us. “What a beautiful surprise.”
