The day’s featured speaker was retired Marine Maj. Gen. James Williams. He spent 36 years in the Marine Corps, serving in various parts of the world, including Iraq and Afghanistan.  When he retired in 2010, he was commander of the 4th Marine Division. He lives in Lake Highlands with his wife Maria, an English teacher at Lake Highlands High School.

“General Williams is very involved in area businesses and civic affairs. He especially likes to offer assistance to wounded veterans who have many challenges when they return to civilian life. He stressed that veterans have been trained to be very disciplined people . As such, they have much to offer to help their communities, and they need and deserve our full support,” according to exchange club representatives.
