The Dallas Park Board presented their plan today to the Dallas City Council, with changes which include a pool for Lake Highlands in Phase I construction. Phase I is fully-funded with $31.8 million from the sale of Dallas’ Elgin B. Robertson Park at Lake Ray Hubbard. LH was originally included in Phase II, with no plan for funding and little likelihood of being built.

Though the design of LH’s pool hasn’t been finalized, it’s likely to be a Neighborhood Family Aquatic Center (FAC), with a modern, family-friendly pool and bath house.

“This is a huge win for Lake Highlands,” said Councilman Adam McGough, who negotiated behind the scenes to ensure LH would be included. “[Former Dallas Park Board President] Joan Walne had the original idea for the project, and she worked tirelessly to make it happen.” McGough also thanked current LH Park Board rep Robin Norcross and Dallas Aquatics Director Robin Steinshneider for their support and service.

“Lake Highlands North has the highest attendance of any pool in the city of Dallas,” said McGough in his original call to action. “We have the highest revenue recovery of any pool in the city by far. And we have what I believe to be the greatest community support for any pool in the city.”

“And, through this process, I’ve learned why the people of Dallas love [Dallas Parks and Recreation Department Director] Willis Winters,” said McGough today. “I’m thankful to be included in Phase I and for what opportunities this brings to our rec center.”
