The Exchange Club of Lake Highlands recognized four outstanding students from Lake Highlands High School at meeting October 9th.

DeVonte Fluellen and Aiyanna Huntsberry received Character Counts awards for October and Mark Garwood and Karla Ruiz were named Youth of the Month.

Devonte, the son of Kendra and Patrick Fluellen, works at Kroger and is active in school choir. He plays defensive end for the Wildcats and hopes to play football at the college level while pursuing an engineering degree. Aiyanna is the daughter of Brenda Anderson. She has a 4.0 average and plays violin in the school orchestra. She works 35 hours per week and hopes to become a forensic anthropologist after college.

Mark is the son of Kirsten and Wesley Garwood. He is ranked first in the senior class and is a National Merit finalist. He is an Eagle Scout, a member of National Honor Society and a performer with Espree. He serves as treasurer for the senior class and plans to major in engineering. Karla is the daughter of Mayra Herrera and has a 4.3 GPA. She works 45 hours per week at Olive Garden but has time to tutor 6-8th grade kids. She plans to major in psychology and attain a master’s degree so that she can become a teacher for children with special needs.
