Records show Porter lived in a nearby apartment complex, in the Forest-I-635 area.

Residents of the far north sector of Lake Highlands reported hearing multiple gunshots Monday a little before 11 a.m. Sirens and police helicopters followed.

It seems a tussle between two young men escalated to an apparent shooting and one death.

Police say the victim, Porter, was involved in a physical altercation with the suspect, 25-year-old Ladarion Sims in the 9700 block of Forest Lane.

“During the altercation, Sims produced a weapon and shot Porter multiple times,” notes a DPD spokesperson, adding that Porter died after being transported to Presbyterian Hospital.

The suspect, Sims, also was treated for an injury to his hand, according to an arrest affidavit, which can be read in full here. Sims told police that Porter attempted to rob him and that he recovered the gun following the altercation. The entire thing was captured on surveillance video from a nearby business; police say it does not show the victim in possession of a weapon at any time.

“Sims has been arrested for murder and placed in jail on a $75,000.00 bond,” police add.

I have reached out to the victim’s family and will continue to update this post as we learn more.
