Sam Iheke, wearing #7 for the Wildcats
Watching Sooner football just got much more interesting for Wildcat fans, now that Lake Highlands High School 2015 grad Sam Iheke earned a spot on the OU roster as a walk on. Iheke caught 15 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns as a senior, and had 19 receptions and 276 yards as a junior.
At the annual Exchange Club football preview before his junior year, Coach Scott Smith raved about Iheke – already a captain of the team.
“Sam Iheke is a leader on the field and off the field. We had his older brother Jonathan a few years ago, and they are two of the best kids and best players around.”
There’s no telling when or if a freshman walk-on may get playing time, but the Sooners play Tulsa this Saturday at 11 a.m. in Norman. Iheke, playing wide receiver, wears number 80.
Boomer, and go Cats!
