Some surprising District 10 Dallas City Council race news popped up over the past several hours including: 1. District 10 City Council candidate Adam McGough withdrew his support of the Trinity Toll Road and 2. McGough’s former opponent James White announced his endorsement of McGough.
Earlier today McGough announced that he supported the withdrawal of “Alternative C3″ a plan that includes a Trinity Toll Road.
Before the May election, McGough told voters he supported the Balanced Vision plan, which affords the possibility of a Trinity toll road, so today’s news represents a change of mind. He says this is due to his conversations with residents of District 10.
“I have talked to thousands of residents in my district, and they overwhelmingly oppose a large toll road within the Trinity levees.”
Before the general election, James White was one of three District 10 candidates to oppose the Trinity toll road outright. White , secured 22.8 percent of the District 10 vote in May’s general election. Paul Reyes and McGough earned a respective 40.9 and 36.4 percent of the vote, and they will face off in a run-off election June 13. (Details here).
With his announcement this morning, McGough secured White’s endorsement.
White, via press release, says:
“During the course of my campaign for Dallas City Council, I focused on issues that were not only important to District 10, but critical to the future of our city. Adam’s decade of experience working to improve public safety, his commitment to our neighborhoods, and his support for withdrawing from federal consideration the Trinity Toll Road plan known as ‘3C,’ make me confident that he is the best candidate to represent District 10 at Dallas City Hall. I proudly endorse Adam McGough.
McGough also is endorsed by current councilman Jerry Allen and former councilman Bill Blaydes.
Reyes has the formal support of former councilman Alan Walne as well as the Dallas Police Association and Dallas Firefighters Association.
