Five Lake Highlands High School students have been named Emerging Artists by the City of Richardson’s Cottonwood Arts Festival, and each will have five pieces on display at the popular event. Rebecca Howland, Alex Irwin, Courtney MacDonald, Claire Pask and Lynsey Strese, along with four other students, will compete online for the festival’s People’s Choice Award. Their work will be displayed at the event, along with art from hundreds of professional artists from around the country, and it is hanging at the Charles W. Eisemann Center for Performing Arts for the month of April prior to the festival. Each student will also receive scholarship money and be honored at an Eisemann Center reception.
The Cottonwood Arts Festival is a 40-year-old juried show which draws nationally-known artists to Richardson’s lakeside Cottonwood Park near Coit and Beltline. Along with the art sale, the festival includes music from live bands, and a children’s area encourages youngsters of all ages to roll up their sleeves and create.
This festival will be Saturday, May 2, 10 a.m. -7 p.m. and Sunday, May 3, 10 a.m. -5 p.m. Admission and parking are free.
