The Lady Wildcat soccer team earned a playoff win Friday night, defeating Irving MacArthur 2-1 in a come-from-behind stunner. The Cats went into halftime down 1-0, but sophomore Erin Moudy nailed a shot with 5 minutes left in the game, and sophomore Abbi Parker headed a ball over the goalie into the box with 4 minutes to go.

“The feeling of winning in the playoffs is so amazing,” says junior Casey Flinn. “My freshman year we didn’t make it to playoffs and last year we lost [to Allen] in the first round, so this is my first experience with a playoff win. It’s so amazing to see how far we have come as a team in 3 years.”

The team will face Waco Midway in Midlothian Thursday at 6 p.m. in the next round.

“The student section Friday night was insane,” says Moudy. “I’ve never seen so many people at a girls’ soccer game, and that was so awesome to see. I would peek up into the stands every once in a while, get really freaked out, and then look back down. Sports like football and basketball get so much attention, so having so much support for soccer – especially girls’ – is pretty cool.”

“We are a very close team,” continues Moudy. “We all have very strong friendships and good chemistry. I think we feel that we have a point to prove. We are very young, but we work hard, regardless, and know that there is no excuse for not playing to our full potential.”

“We are all best friends and play for each other,” agrees Flinn, “and that really shows on the field. I know we have the talent to make it far in the playoffs. We just have to execute. We will take it game-by-game, but I see great potential for us as a team.”

Go Cats!
