Lady Wildcats 2015

The Lake Highlands High School women’s soccer team has qualified for the playoffs, and team members say drawing a home game for the first round bodes well. The Lady Wildcats face Irving MacArthur at 8:30 p.m. Friday night at Wildcat Stadium.

“The best thing about making playoffs is that our season is not over,” says Mackenzie Jones, the team’s relentless goalkeeper. “We get to continue to spend time together as a team, on and off the field.”

“Playing with the team – especially with our only senior, Olga Delgadillo,” agrees Laney Norris. “That’s what I love about playoffs.”

Jones says she’s optimistic about progressing deep into the playoffs this year, even though her team is young.

“Last year we finished second in district and lost in the first round to Allen,” recalls Jones. “This year we don’t have to play such a powerhouse team the first round.”

Again, Laney Norris agrees.

“We put up a good fight, but Allen ended up winning the game. I think we have a very good chance of winning the game on Friday if we play our best. I think we can go as far as we want to as long as we continue to play the way we have all season.”

The men’s team is finished for the season. The Lady Wildcats are coached by Don Tatum in his first year at LHHS. If you love soccer, you can see the men’s Skyline vs. J.J. Pearce game Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium just before the Lady Wildcats, and you can see the Highland Park girls play Skyline Thursday at 6. Go Cats!
