A woman is recovering from a gunshot wound and police are searching for a yet undescribed male suspect. It happened just after midnight Monday as the woman was entering her apartment unit at the Huntington Brook complex on Audelia between Forest Lane and Walnut.
Police told reporters the motive appeared to be robbery. There was a struggle over the 33-year-old woman’s possessions, police report, and it ended with the suspect shooting her in the leg.
A community garden at the Huntington Brook Apartment complex was the subject of a 2012 Advocate article highlighting community activist and volunteer Janice Fowler (who is quoted in the CBS story about today’s shooting), her young protege Janiecia Aubry, and “the harsh reality of Audelia Road apartment life: Violent crime, drugs, prostitution and bad behavior exist right alongside sweet children and good people like Fowler, who has donated untold hours of service in an effort to keep kids occupied with something other than drugs.”
This morning’s shooting is just a week removed from a violent killing at an apartment a block north of Huntington Brook.
