news1-300x300Lake Highlands news nuggets of the week:

We’ll start with a warm fuzzy anecdote about a Lake Highlands woman whose visit to a neighborhood Whataburger drive through resulted in a remarkable act of human kindness, courtesy Steve Blow. Sidenote: the woman in the story is a Moss Haven mom about whom we’ve written.

Others had a bit more troubled holiday, but at least no one died: On Christmas Eve, a standoff between the Dallas Police SWAT Team and a gunman inside a home near Forest and Audelia ended peacefully after the armed man surrendered, reports Matt Peterson on the DMN Crime blog.

The Lake Highlands based nonprofit LifeNet recently expanded. The Morning News published an update on the progress of the facility, which serves some 5500 clients a year. Learn more about the organization in this 2012 Advocate story.

Here’s an update on a Lake Highlands boy who was in the news last summer after he was shot in the face while playing in his apartment complex parking lot. He is healing and home for Christmas.
