If you have a cell phone that you aren’t using, drop it off at Doctors Hospital at White Rock Lake, 9440 Poppy. When you do, it makes it possible for military men and women stationed around the world to communicate with family and friends back home for free.
BeginningVeterans Day, Nov. 11, residents can donate their phones in the main lobby at Doctors. Donations will be accepted until Nov. 30 and will be shipped to national nonprofit Cell Phones for Soldiers Dec. 1.
The Cell Phones for Soldiers program was founded in 2004 by two junior high students. The way it works is, donated phones are sent to Mindful eCycling for recycling. The foundation uses funds from recycled phones to purchase calling cards for the troops.
The nonprofit has given soldiers some 210 million minutes to date.
