What's new at Market in the Meadow?

Hoping to find something new at this weekend’s Market in the Meadow? You’re in luck. One third of the show’s 150 vendors are new, the result of months of work by Forest Meadow Junior High PTA committee members scouring bazaars to recruit the finest merchants. After 30 successful years, MIM’s reputation offering holiday décor, unique apparel, gourmet food, home accessories and more brings vendors (and shoppers) from far and wide. Booth Chairman Amy Moseley gave me a sneak peek, and the list includes several creative artisans, including some with LH ties.

Fetch Dog Stores is brought by FMJH and LHHS alum Colman Vigil, who sells gear and gifts for dogs. Fetch, based in Pensacola, specializes in home-baked, healthy dog treats.

Ember Effects is the artistic entry from LH alum Andrea Cochran. Andrea creates trays, cutting boards and other items using pyrography – the decorative burning of designs into wood by hand.

Frockets, created by UT and SMU alums, are t-shirts, tanks and sweatshirts customized with colorful pockets. Monograms, logos or Greek letters may be added.

Brim Couture will bring custom-made, monogrammed sun hats, rain hats and bags designed by Park Cities resident Barbie Cobb. Perfect for the beach, sporting events and looking chic on bad hair days.

Just Sew Happy is the creation of LH resident Cindy North. Cindy makes decorative burlap pillows and other one-of-a-kind home goods.

EMA Baking is a family-run artisan bakery specializing in gingersnaps, lavosh and biscotti. (Did you know biscotti is Italian for twice-baked, which explains their dry and crunchy texture?)

Dallas Caramel Company will bring 3 types of Texas turtles and thirteen different flavors of caramel, including chipotle, chai and coconut. Yum.

Under Wraps isn’t exactly new to MIM, but it’s been years since the giftwrap company had a booth. Since then, they’ve added coordinated accessories such as raffia, ribbon and boxes.

Kevin Sutton, LH resident and father of five grown daughters, figures if he can’t laugh he’ll cry. He’s written Dear Midol: Essays from Estrogen Hell about his experience in an outnumbered household, and he’ll be on hand at Market in the Meadow to sell and sign his book. The Charger Café, run by FMJH moms, will be open serving meals and snacks, and you can purchase volunteer-prepared baked goods at the FMJH Bake Shoppe. Raffle tickets will give you a chance to win great prizes, and entertainment will be provided throughout the show by junior high and high school student groups including the Highlandettes, Wranglers, cheer squads, bands and choirs. Admission is free. Booth fees and other proceeds will be used to benefit FMJH students.

Market in the Meadow will be held Saturday, October 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, October 19 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
