Baron and Allison Meliza are longtime residents of Lake Highlands and have two daughters, Abbie at Lake Highlands Freshman Center and Emilie, who is at Lake Highlands High School. Baron last month was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and began treatments, according to friends who are organizing a Nov. 1 fundraiser for the family.
“Baron and Allison are determined to fight and pursue every avenue to improve his chances against the disease,” they note. “The Melizas are surrounded by friends, family and a loving community who are willing to stand alongside them in their battle. We have organized a fundraiser and you are invited. The event includes dancing, fun music, karaoke and dessert and there are even door prizes.”
The event is on Saturday, November 1st at 11 a.m. at the Lake Highlands United Methodist Church gym and should last a little over an hour. Wear workout clothes, leave a small donation at the door and sing and dance your heart out.
Baron has insurance, but concerned friends also set up a fund last month to get a jump on additional expenses, likely to mount as the couple miss work for his care and such. You may donate here.
