It’s time again for White Rock Local Market’s fourth annual chili contest, to be held Oct. 18. Gather at Lakeside Baptist Church from 10:30 a.m.-noon. to sample chili or show off your one-of-a-kind recipe in categories such as traditional, vegetarian, spicy, and wildcard. Sign up to participate in the contest here; cost is $25.

Whole Foods on Park Lane is hosting a beer dinner, featuring “Southern homestyle” cuisine and selected beers from Revolver Brewing, on Oct. 24, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Cost is $30; purchase reservations here.

In honor of the (hopefully) chillier temps headed our way this fall season, Bread Winners is introducing some hearty, seasonal “Blue Plate Specials” this week. Cost is $10.99 at lunch and $12.99 at dinner. Check out the array of cozy, protein-heavy dishes, and when you can get them, below:

Made with blistered tomatoes, mushrooms and rosemary cream

Fridays: Chicken Marsala Linguini
Made with pearl onions, mushrooms, marsala cream

Mondays will feature a Broccoli Cheese Soup
Tuesdays will feature a Chicken Sausage Gumbo
Wednesdays will feature a Potato Leek Soup
Thursdays will feature a French Onion Soup
Fridays will feature a Blackened Chicken Corn Chowder
