In September 1962, Golden Home Builders debuted phase two of the Lake Highlands North subdivision of Lake Highlands. This archived Morning News article notes that architect Charles W. Jennings “prepared the plans especially for the 3- and 4- bedroom houses … contemporary, ranch and colonial.”
Builders boast rear-entry double garages and year-round air-conditioning. Prices range from $18,950-$21,500.
The first models opened in June 1961. When the first phase opened, the builders teamed up with Ben Griffin Auto for a promo —prize cars parked in front of the new homes were given away to lucky perspective buyers. (I came across these archives while doing some research for a story about places that have been in Lake Highlands seemingly forever. Keep an eye out for that in our October issue.)
Today, according to one website anyway, the median list price of Lake Highlands North homes is $489,000.
