The Wildcats ran into a buzz saw Saturday, losing to McKinney Boyd in the regional finals of men’s high school soccer.
After playing Conroe High to a 0-0 tie after double overtimes Friday night, the Cats headed into penalty kicks. Wesley Osborn, Aaron Volkert and Grant Norris all put the ball in the net, but still they were knotted at 3-3. The teams headed into sudden death PKs, and Roberto Lopez was the hero, earning the winning goal before a big crowd of LH fans who’d traveled to Round Rock to watch the match.
Saturday’s game was a different story, with the Cats getting off to a slow start and heading into halftime down 2-0. Lake Highlands played a strong second half, but it was too late. McKinney Boyd won 3-1.
