A murder and two home burglaries occurred in our area this past week:
Murder —Friday, March 28, a little after midnight, witnesses discovered 45-year-old Christopher Kassim bleeding to death on a sidewalk near Forest Lane and Greenville. Responding police officers followed a trail of blood and, after a brief foot chase, caught up with suspect Tarin Sidney, 43, whose hand was lacerated and bleeding, according to a police report. The officers found a knife nearby. Dallas Fire and Rescue took Kassim to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, presumably from stab wounds. Sidney is in custody on a $501,000 bond, charged with murder and evading arrest.
Home burglaries—Tuesday night a home in the 10400 block of Solta, near Easton and Northlake, was burglarized; thieves reportedly forced entry and took two televisions and a blue ray player.
Wednesday morning a home in the 10800 block of Hayfield, near Plano and McCree reportedly was burglarized in similar fashion. The suspect (s) kicked in the front door and made off with $2500-plus worth of electronics and jewelry.
Other crimes in/around the neighborhood this week:
Towed away—Last Thursday, 46-year-old Pedro Mendez reported that shortly after his car broke down on 635 near Abrams, someone in a tow truck stole his vehicle. He had walked to get help, he says, and en route back to the car, he witnessed a black flatbed tow truck loading and driving away with his Suburban.
Threatened with gun—At about 7:30 p.m. last Friday a 55-year-old man at the Forest Green Manor, apartments on Forest Lane near Abrams, was confronted by a man with a gun who threatened to “shoot [his] ass.” The victim turned and fled and was unharmed.
People being jerks—sometime during the night Friday, a vandal chunked a rock through the drive-thru window at Braums on Greenville and Forest, shattering the glass.
Jerks, cont.—Tuesday afternoon someone vandalized a city-owned mowing tractor by smashing the window; it was parked at Moss Park at Greenville and Royal.
