Chili-Cook-OffOh baby, it’s on.

At Wallace Elementary they’ve thrown the gauntlet, and tonight parents and school staff will face off in the 7th Annual Chili Cook-Off in the school’s cafeteria. The event is sponsored by Wallace’s Dads’ Club, and this year, the dads say they’re determined not to let the teachers take home the trophy a second year in a row.

“Be afraid!” warned parent Frank Gomez. “The gloves are coming off. The past couple of years, I have lightened up and gone on the very mild side, but no more. The spice is back, so bring on the heat.”

“Win or not,” he joked “at least you will remember me the next day.”

Pop Rocks aAdmission is $2 per person, which includes sampling all the chili you care to eat, and there’s no fee to enter. The Dad’s Club will be cooking and selling hotdogs the fourth grade is selling drinks and dessert. Entertainment will be provided by the “Pop Rocks” dads’ band, and the fun begins at 6:30 p.m.

For the record, last year’s winners for Best Tasting Chili were 2nd grade teachers Ronda Wylie, Judy Jenkins, Kathryn Smith, Julie O’Brien and (LHHS 2005 grad) Kelly Tegt. Best of luck, all!
