Meredith Alloway’s online interview show has been featured here on the blog before. She’s the Lake Highlands High School and SMU theatre program grad who travels to the country’s top film festivals and premieres to interview Hollywood’s hottest actors, directors and writers and emerging talents.
Meredith’s latest sit-down, with two-time Academy Award winner Helena Bonham Carter at the 21st Annual Hamptons International Film Festival, revealed the extensive process Bonham Carter undertook to portray Elizabeth Taylor in the new BBC America film “Burton and Taylor.”
Consulting everyone from Taylor’s goddaughter to an astrologist, from biographies to analysis of Taylor’s handwriting, Bonham Carter prepared to play one of the most beloved yet reviled women in the history of Hollywood.
The film is set in 1983, just before Taylor enters rehab at Betty Ford and just after the couple’s second divorce. The two reunite to star in Noel Coward “Private Lives” on Broadway, about a divorced couple who stumble across each other while on honeymoons with new spouses.
With Meredith, Bonham Carter is relaxed, quirky and compelling. Atta-way, Alloway.
