A couple years ago we wrote about Honor Flight Dallas, a nonprofit whose aim is to get as many WWII veterans as possible to the National WWII Memorial in Washington D.C., free of charge. Honor Flight participants from other chapters made news this week when their trip to the memorial was threatened by the government shutdown. Fortunately, they were accommodated and 41 DFW veterans are ready to head to D.C.

Dallas has moved up on the list of safe cities, reports the Morning News. Police chief David Brown told reporters it is time to work even harder to keep improving safety, keep moving up the list. Our councilman Jerry Allen notes that his (notoriously high-density and problematic) District 10 area is steadily becoming a culture of crime intolerance. (Hang tight—we are working on a story about that for our print magazine).

A man was violently attacked at NorthPark last weekend, CBS DFW reports. Two suspects pepper sprayed the victim, reached into his pockets and punched him in the face. The victim reportedly was recovering in the hospital while the suspects remained at large.
