The Wildcat Cheerleaders presented a $1,000 check to the Leukemia Society at halftime Friday night in honor of Merriman Park teacher, Beth Lyons. The much-beloved kindergarten teacher and Young Life mentor has been fighting the disease since her diagnosis last spring.
The funds were raised from the cheer squad’s t-shirt sales for Lake Highlands’ annual Red Out game. Though Mesquite beat the Cats 16-14, the home stands were awash in a sea of red cotton for the first official game of the year.
On hand for the presentation were – representing Herb’s Paint & Body, sponsor of the t-shirts – Alan and Joan Walne and their children and grandchildren. Accompanying Beth as she received the cheerleaders’ check was her husband Brody and his sister Bryn Lyons Volkmer, both LHHS graduates.
