Flag Pole Hill: Google Maps
A Lake Highlands park-goer, last May, saw something suspicious — someone dumping a stack of files near a trash bin at Flag Pole Hill — and reported it to the Dallas Police.
Now, the story behind the strange dumpster deposit is out and it is a somewhat big deal.
The load contained some 277,000 medical records from Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, complete with patients’ names, addresses, birth dates, health information and, in some cases, Social Security numbers, reports the Fort Worth Star Telegram.
The records are pretty old, 1980-1990 and on microfiche, but this sort of information reportedly is valuable to thieves. We couldn’t find a 911 or police report on the call from Flag Pole Hill, so the caller remains anonymous. The company charged with destroying Harris’ medical records, Canadian-based Shred-it, could face some consequences. It seems they did not know how the handle the ol’ microfiche.
