After 31 years directing choir in Lake Highlands schools, first at the junior high and later at the high school, Michael O’Hern has announced he will retire at the end of this year. Associate director Terry Berrier, who has been with LHHS 14 years will also resign at the completion of this year.
O’Hern told students and parents in a letter that he is leaving to work on a textbook, judge choir competitions and take care of his 91-year-old mom. He says he will stick around to pick next years a capella and Espree choirs and will return frequently as an observer.
Berrier notes that she intends to pursue new career possibilities.
The Lake Highlands Choir Booster Club will host a farewell reception for both Thursday, June 6 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the LHHS library.
