I was at Dutch Art Gallery Saturday to interview a young artist — look for that amazing story later this summer  — and everyone was talking about the new Gecko Hardware, which opened in the same strip, 10233 E. Northwest Highway, last week.

Gecko is an interesting addition to the neighborhood. It is owned by True Value, but is not your typical hardware store. Sure it has all your characteristic home improvement needs — tools and nails etcetera — but also it is an eco garden center and therefore has everything you need for urban gardening and agricultural needs. Looking to get in on the backyard chicken trend? Gecko has your coops, feed and the chickens.

In fact, that was the highlight of my visit—bins of baby chicks and a few little turkeys, which, if you can handle it, could be nice and plump by the time Thanksgiving rolls around.
