Lake Highlands residents Kim and Brent Martinelli’s 4-year-old son, Thomas, has Retinitis Pigmentosa, a degenerative eye disease that could leave him legally blind by the time he’s a teenager.
Last spring Kim Martinelli told us, “We believe one of two things will happen: either Thomas will never go blind because we’re finding a cure, or he will benefit in his lifetime because of genetic research.”

Local artist and family friend Sonya Renee has jumped in to help fundraising efforts by designing necklaces with unique braille pendants available for purchase here. The net profit of the necklace sales will go towards additional research for a cure.
