I’ve had a sweet tooth lately, so I tried desserts at a few of my favorite spots.

All three of my post-meal recommendations hail from Asian eateries. That’s because when I eat out, I primarily go Asian. Not only do these places, respectively, do pho, sushi and bánh mì right, but they also understand that dessert is not an afterthought.

It is a ritual and should be approached as such.

1. Banana split at Bistro B

SAMSUNG

Bistro B, located at the northwest corner of Walnut and Audelia, slightly north of Lake Highlands, has a massive menu that includes some items that aren’t for everyone. But there are some things they do very right. One: Pho. You cannot go wrong with their noodle soups. Two: frosty treats. The menu offers smoothies in every flavor imaginable, but my favorite is the banana split. Big scoops of strawberry, vanilla and chocolate-caramel. Loads of real whipped cream. Peanuts chopped and bonded with ooey gooey caramel. All for under $3. Mmmmm.

2. Green tea mochi at Kazy’s

Kazy's, located off I-635 near Greenville, is newly remodeled and offers some of the best sushi known to Dallas, TX. Recently, they put a sign at the register advertising a fresh shipment of Mochi, a dessert made from pounded sticky rice and ice cream. I crave mocha ever since the first time I had it at this weird little ice cream stand in upstate New York. Kazy's offers vanilla, green tea, chocolate and strawberry by the six-piece box ($4.50).

3. Fried bananas at Pho 95

Back north, in the same lot as Bistro B, Pho 95 is known for it's, duh, pho, as well as its good Vietnamese subs, but the place was on my "it'll do" list until I tried the fried bananas. Now it's on my "gotta have". Pho 95 also offers a refreshing coconut-ice drink that comes with the glass lined in coconut shavings.
