Early Saturday morning a Lake Highlands-area parking lot was the site of a showdown between police and a man suspected of violently killing his girlfriend.
In the end, police shot and killed Stoney Eugene Rawlinson after the 39-year old aimed a weapon at them.
Last week, Rawlinson’s girlfriend was found in the couple’s Pleasant Grove-area home, dead by apparent violence to her head and upper body, according to a police report.
According to a Dallas Morning News article, Rawlinson called police Saturday to turn himself in for the crime. He asked police to meet him at a Skillman-Abrams shopping center parking lot, home to Tom Thumb. When they arrived, the man was sitting in his Ford pickup with a gun. After they shot him, police called in a SWAT unit to check out the scene and verify that Rawlinson was indeed dead.
